Harvard Stadium is a National Historic Landmark originally constructed in 1903 and is the first structure in America to utilize cast-in-place concrete technologies. Casali has been managing the studies and extensive structural repairs since 2017, phased, to maintain the life safety and increase the longevity of the building.
A eighteen-month robust monitoring program was recently completed to better understand how the building is moving in response to various loading conditions (thermal, wind and occupancy) with robotic optical surveying, bi-axial tilt sensors and crack monitors. The monitoring program data will be used to determine relative stresses and the effective implementation of available funding for future repairs.
Casali also oversaw other improvements, including the installation of new aluminum bleachers in the Colonnade level, new handrails in the seating bowl, and new signage.
