Broadway Theater Renovation

Client: Mudflat Pottery Studio

Location: Somerville, MA

SQ FT: 30,000

Cost: $3M

Services: Project Management, Architecture, Interiors, Construction Management

Renovation of the historic Broadway Theater into classroom and artist studio space for Mudflat Pottery Studios. A new 6,000 square foot second floor structure built within, and independent of, the original shell maximizes the useable area of the space, while many original walls and details are left exposed to maintain the beauty of the original building. New clerestory, skylight, exterior windows, and open atria allow natural light to illuminate the new spaces. Casali assisted the owner from the start of the project – assisting in the purchase of the building – through all phases of design, town reviews, code and zoning analyses.

The new building is a major part of a larger and enthusiastic effort by the City of Somerville for the revitalization of East Broadway, and received much attention and praise from the City.
